2014: Patricia A. Maryland

In a unique 25th anniversary celebration of the HBA’s Woman of the Year (WOTY) event, the HBA announced three visionary women across the healthcare spectrum as the 2014 HBA Women of the Year. Together, Shideh Sedgh Bina, Annalisa Jenkins, MBBS, MRCP and Patricia A. Maryland, Dr.PH, accepted the award.

“2014 marks a year of celebration for the HBA. Recognizing our 35th year as the industry’s premier organization committed to the advancement of women in healthcare worldwide and celebrating 25 years of remarkable women leaders. It was important to mark these momentous milestones in a distinctive way” commented Jeanne Zucker, HBA chair emeritus. “We are excited to mark our WOTY silver anniversary with three distinguished leaders representing life sciences, care delivery, and management services, showcasing the diversity in healthcare and HBA’s commitment to women throughout the full-service continuum of healthcare.”

Patricia A. Maryland, Dr.PH, president of healthcare operations and chief operating officer of Ascension Healthcare. She previously served as the president and CEO of St. John Providence Health System in Warren, Michigan and as the Michigan ministry market leader for Ascension Healthcare, where she provided strategic and operational leadership for St. John Providence Health System while promoting alignment among health ministries within the Michigan market and with the system office on issues related to mission and vision. Dr. Maryland has served as the president of St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, and as the executive vice president and CEO for St. Vincent Health. In this dual role she oversaw operations for St. Vincent Hospitals and Health Services, the flagship tertiary hospital of the St. Vincent Health system.
