2014: Annalisa Jenkins

In a unique 25th anniversary celebration of the HBA’s Woman of the Year (WOTY) event, the HBA announced three visionary women across the healthcare spectrum as the 2014 HBA Women of the Year. Together, Shideh Sedgh Bina, Annalisa Jenkins, MBBS, MRCP and Patricia A. Maryland, Dr.PH, accepted the award.

“2014 marks a year of celebration for the HBA. Recognizing our 35th year as the industry’s premier organization committed to the advancement of women in healthcare worldwide and celebrating 25 years of remarkable women leaders. It was important to mark these momentous milestones in a distinctive way” commented Jeanne Zucker, HBA chair emeritus. “We are excited to mark our WOTY silver anniversary with three distinguished leaders representing life sciences, care delivery, and management services, showcasing the diversity in healthcare and HBA’s commitment to women throughout the full-service continuum of healthcare.”

Annalisa Jenkins, MBBS, MRCP, at the time of this award was executive vice president and head of global research and development for Merck Serono. In addition, she led global medical affairs and quality and was a member of the pharmaceutical executive committee. She joined Merck Serono in 2011, previously serving as head of global development and medical. Prior to joining Merck Serono, Dr. Jenkins was senior vice president, global medical affairs at Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS). She started with BMS in 1997 in the UK. In 2000, she moved to Australia to serve as executive medical director for Australia and New Zealand, subsequently leading the medical division across Asia Pacific and Latin America. Dr. Jenkins began her career as a medical officer with the British Royal Navy and served with the Minesweeper Squadron during the Gulf conflict, rising to the rank of surgeon lieutenant commander.
