HBA Houston Proudly Recognizes Raquel Jordan as an Honored Volunteer
The HBA Houston Honored Volunteer Award was recently presented to Raquel Jordan, MBA. Raquel was nominated because of her commitment and many contributions as a volunteer for HBA Houston. As a member of the HBA for some time, she chose to become more active with the goal of broadening her network with women in healthcare, as well as investing in her professional growth.
Raquel currently volunteers as an HBA Houston Marketing and Communications committee member and is influential as a mentor in the HBA Southwest mentoring program. This program offers mentors and mentees an opportunity to meet and dive into topics such as difficult conversations, time management, and virtual presence. Raquel’s contributions are key to the success and continued growth of HBA Houston.
Raquel is passionate about raising awareness of lung and breast cancer. Cancer has touched her life very personally — both her father-in-law and mother-in-law passed from lung cancer, and her mother and aunt are both breast cancer survivors. Raquel is a Regional Account Director for Takeda Oncology where she is able to positively impact the lives of those diagnosed with cancer. Of her career choice, Raquel states, “My job allows me to be a part of a company that aspires to cure cancer while incorporating values of integrity, fairness, honesty, and perseverance. My career has given me the opportunity to help improve the lives of patients while doing what I love most, which is networking and engaging with others in this ever-evolving healthcare landscape.”
In addition to her volunteer work with the HBA, Raquel volunteers for the Southwest Affiliate of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP). AMCP is a professional association that helps patients obtain medications at an affordable cost. Raquel attributes much of her career success in her current role to this organization.
Raquel is excited to increase her involvement and volunteer efforts with the HBA. She believes that HBA membership encourages women by sharing experiences and challenges, as well as failures and successes. Raquel states, “The HBA allows me to continue to learn from others. I am stretched to go beyond my comfort zone and volunteer in other areas than I have in the past.”
In her spare time, Raquel enjoys traveling with her family. Her key to success is having a “positive, can-do attitude,” as well as being genuine. Raquel’s advice to others is “don’t give up,” and don’t be afraid to ask for help. She says, “If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same spot.”
