A New VP for HBA Orange County

The HBA Orange County (OC) is thrilled to announce our new Vice President, Karen Jimenea, a leader in Medical Operations for AbbVie’s Global Medical Affairs organization. For the past two years, Karen has served as the Programming Director at Large (DAL) for the HBA OC, implementing numerous educational events and networking opportunities despite the challenges of the pandemic.

Karen joined the HBA OC in January 2020. She hit the ground running and took it upon herself to learn her role as DAL of programming and recruit and train a new committee. Karen has been an invaluable board member, an esteemed award winner, and has inspired the HBA Pacific region programming team with her positive energy and attitude.

In her new role, Karen will be the primary liaison with the regional treasurer, ensuring chapter P&L and financials are well managed, reported, and understood. She will also manage engagement with the HBA OC Advisory Board, including recruitment of new advisors, strategic planning, and helping drive growth initiatives for the chapter. Karen will support the chapter’s functional directors in their leadership roles and professional development, acting as a mentor and coach, in addition to cultivating relationships with local healthcare organizations and corporate partners.

Karen has more than 20 years of professional experience. She has 16 years of healthcare experience, which started with Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices before she transitioned to pharma when she joined Allergan in 2011. Born and raised in the Philippines, Karen’s career has given her the opportunity to live in multiple countries, including Hong Kong and Singapore, and eventually, the U.S. Karen holds a bachelor’s degree in management engineering and an MBA from the University of California, Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business. She is based in Orange County and lives with her husband and their three lovely children.

We would like to congratulate Karen on her new role and look forward to her leadership and guidance.

A Special Thank You…
The HBA OC wants to thank Shiva Sharareh, PhD, for her contributions as the chapter Vice President. As VP, Shiva helped to build an esteemed advisory board with executives from major healthcare organizations throughout Orange County and provided guidance and coaching to the HBA OC Board of Directors. She was also instrumental in spearheading programs with Orange County healthcare organizations, including Johnson & Johnson. Shiva has been a long-time HBA member and was one of the original members of the HBA Orange County three years ago. We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.
