Why Does Jean Cherry, HBA Phoenix VP, Volunteer with the HBA?

Why do I volunteer and what I get out of it?

Jean Cherry, HBA Phoenix VP: My main goal is to see women grow and succeed in their careers. The HBA is the perfect place to help others advance faster through the 20+ years of experience I have gained in many aspects of the healthcare industry. My company, Walgreens, is an HBA corporate partner. I first heard of the HBA at work when I was invited to attend an event in Chicago where our Chief Medical Officer was a panelist. Soon after, I joined the HBA. It was exciting to know Walgreens offered this support for the women in our company because of the opportunities for learning and growth the HBA provides. Check and see if your company is a corporate partner and if they offer corporate HBA memberships for free or reduced pricing.

My first step in volunteering was for the HBA Mentor program two years ago. It is invigorating to walk alongside women who are earlier in their careers and support them on their career journeys. I also assisted the HBA Minneapolis President, a previous colleague of mine, just as the chapter was forming. After recently moving to Phoenix, I wanted to meet and collaborate with women in healthcare outside my company. Again the HBA has offered me the chance to meet many knowledgeable, hardworking individuals who are passionate about healthcare. I joined the HBA Phoenix Board as Vice President and it's definitely true that the more I put into HBA, the more I get out of it. It has been an excellent experience to be involved with three different HBA chapters across the country. Don’t miss the opportunities that the HBA provides, join now and get active. - Jean Cherry
