Meet Rupsa Basu

Volunteering with the HBA is especially important to me because it allows me to contribute directly to empowering women in the healthcare industry. As a supporter of gender equality and diversity in the workplace, I believe in the importance of fostering an environment where women can thrive professionally. By volunteering with this organization, I have the opportunity to not only support women in advancing their careers but also to be part of a community dedicated to breaking barriers and promoting inclusivity within the healthcare sector. Additionally, by engaging in various initiatives and projects, I can utilize my skills and experiences to make a meaningful impact on the lives of women within this field, ultimately creating a more equitable and prosperous future for all.

Volunteering has impacted my career by providing invaluable networking opportunities, enhancing my professional development, and deepening my understanding of the healthcare industry. Through my involvement with the association, I've had the chance to connect with a diverse range of professionals, from established leaders to emerging talents, fostering meaningful relationships that have opened doors to new opportunities and collaborations. Moreover, spearheading Regional Education & Events and thereby leading programming in New York, New Jersey & Connecticut around  various projects and events has allowed me to refine my skills, expand my knowledge base, and gain insights into the latest trends and challenges in healthcare along with enhancing my leadership skills. Overall, volunteering with the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association has been instrumental in shaping my career trajectory, equipping me with the tools and connections necessary to succeed in the dynamic and ever-evolving healthcare landscape.

My favorite HBA event I ever attended was the International Women's Day celebration on 8 March 2024. This is extra special for me as I was involved with the overall programming & organization of this global event this year!

Volunteering has expanded my network by providing access to a diverse community of professionals within the healthcare industry. Through my involvement with the association, I've had the privilege to connect with individuals from various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare services, and beyond. These interactions have not only broadened my perspective but also facilitated meaningful connections with peers, mentors, and potential collaborators. Whether through networking events, workshops, or volunteer projects, each opportunity has enabled me to forge new relationships, exchange ideas, and learn from the experiences of others. This expanded network has not only enriched my professional journey but also opened doors to new opportunities for growth, collaboration, and advancement within the healthcare sector.

The most valuable lesson I learned from a fellow volunteer is “The moment we cease to preface leadership roles with gender is the moment we attain true equality.”

What skills have you acquired or fine-tuned during your time as an HBA volunteer that you feel will help you Accelerate Transformational Leadership? Firstly, my involvement has honed my communication skills, allowing me to effectively convey ideas, collaborate with diverse teams, and inspire others towards a common vision. Additionally, I've developed strong project management abilities through organizing events, coordinating initiatives, and leading teams, ensuring projects are executed efficiently and effectively. Moreover, my time with the HBA has enhanced my networking skills, enabling me to build and maintain meaningful relationships with professionals across various sectors, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Furthermore, my experiences with the HBA have bolstered my adaptability and resilience, essential qualities for navigating the complexities of leadership in a rapidly evolving industry. Overall, these skills acquired through volunteering with the HBA position me well to drive transformational leadership, fostering innovation, inclusivity, and positive change within the healthcare landscape.

My favorite part of volunteering for the HBA is the sense of purpose and fulfillment I derive from contributing to a cause that is deeply meaningful to me. Being part of an organization dedicated to advancing gender equality and empowering women in the healthcare industry resonates strongly with my values and aspirations. Additionally, I cherish the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for making a positive impact and driving change within our field. Whether it's collaborating on projects, attending events, or simply engaging in conversations, the camaraderie and sense of community within HBA make volunteering an enriching and rewarding experience. Overall, my favorite part is knowing that through my involvement, I am playing a part in creating a more equitable and inclusive future for women in healthcare.

I applied for my current role with the HBA because as the Regional Vice President within the New York Tri-state region, I am dedicated to strategic planning around regional educational priorities and virtual/in-person events; coordinating the oversight of all region/chapter event types and regional event executions. Moreover, as a part of the leadership team, I work cross-functionally to build relationships with the regional Corporate relations team and Marketing team to effectively deliver on event sponsorship and promotion of education and events. Thus enhancing expertise on valuable skills such as Change management, mentorship, cross functional leadership, finance forecasting & strategy and many more.

I first learned about the HBA when I noticed numerous influential figures in the healthcare sector, whom I admire for their perspectives on leadership and career paths, actively participating in efforts to contribute to global change through the organization. Witnessing their dedication to giving back sparked my curiosity about the values and mission of this association.

I volunteer for the united force for change because I firmly believe in the power of collective action to drive meaningful and positive transformations in society. By dedicating my time and efforts to this cause, I contribute to a unified effort aimed at addressing pressing issues, promoting equity, and fostering positive change on a global scale. Additionally, volunteering for the United Force for Change allows me to align with like-minded individuals who share a passion for making a difference and creating a better world for current and future generations. This collective endeavor not only empowers me to contribute to impactful initiatives but also reinforces my sense of purpose and commitment to serving others and creating a more just and inclusive society.

What would be your advice to someone thinking about joining or getting more involved with the HBA? My advice to someone considering joining or getting more involved with the HBA would be to seize the opportunity wholeheartedly. Firstly, take the time to explore the various initiatives, events, and resources offered by the HBA to gain a deeper understanding of its mission and values. Once you've identified areas that align with your interests and goals, don't hesitate to get involved. Whether it's attending networking events, participating in volunteer projects, or joining committees, actively engage with the community to maximize your experience and impact. Additionally, don't underestimate the power of networking within the HBA—build relationships, seek mentorship opportunities, and leverage the knowledge and expertise of fellow members to enhance your professional growth and development. Finally, remember that your involvement with the HBA is not only about what you can gain but also about what you can contribute. Be proactive, share your ideas, and actively contribute to initiatives that resonate with you, knowing that your efforts are helping to drive positive change within the healthcare industry and beyond.

Anything else you would like to share? Being a leader, I am striving each day to help deserving leaders especially women create their own table of opportunities if they aren’t given. I am glad that my contributions have garnered me  several accolades with HBA itself such as  winning the 2023 Leadership excellence award as Spark awards at the NY Chapter (2023) & Regional levels (2024). Moreover, I also serve as the educational mentor at Nucleate, another organization empowering the next generation of bio innovators as well as Editor of many international scientific journals such as Frontiers of Immunology, Medicine, and more.
