2023 Program FAQs

What if I am interested but not sure about potential roles as a volunteer?
We believe that any HBA member can be a valuable addition to this program. After you sign up, our global or regional leaders will help you find an appropriate role based on your interests, skills, and preferences. We know that it takes courage to sign up, and we’re here to support you and help you find joy and purpose in your development journey as you give back to your community.

What skills and experiences are needed to volunteer?
Any skills are welcome! Diversity in background, skills, and experiences will only maximize our collective efforts. Your team will support you if you would like to learn new skills in communications, marketing, project management, team management, business development, etc.

What will my team be working on?
Your team will connect with a nonprofit working on health disparities to find alignment between the skills and interests of your team and the needs of the non-profit. We will track two success measures globally: number of nonprofits partners and number of HBA WIH Give Back volunteer hours. You will also develop success measures specific to your nonprofit(s) and team; your team will work with the nonprofit to determine what project will impact them most and what related success measures would be most effective to track. We will provide more details to volunteer leaders in Q1 2023. 

Why should I join?
HBA Women in Healthcare Give Back is an affinity group focused on connecting women looking to use their professional skills and networks to make a real difference in their local communities. Participants in WIH Give Back’s program are also given opportunities to get outside their comfort zones and grow their leadership skills within a supportive environment. If you want to grow professionally while supporting your community, this is the program for you!

What is the sign-up period?
Registration opens on Tuesday, 4 October and will close in early 2023. We encourage you to sign up early as spots tends to fill quickly. 

How much does it cost to sign up?
The program is FREE for any HBA member. There is a nominal $5 registration fee to cover HBA administrative costs.

What if I’m not an HBA member but would like to get involved?
The more advocates who can champion with us, the better! However, you must be an HBA member to join this program. That said, we encourage you to visit the HBA Membership page for more information on how to join the HBA, and invite you to join the WIH Give Back LinkedIn group to stay up-to-date on program developments and ways you can help.
