Walk Around the Globe challenge – your steps count

What is Walk Around the Globe?
As part of the Fit to Lead initiative, the HBA Greater Philadelphia chapter is challenging our members to come together and walk 50 million steps by the end of the year – that’s the 25,000 miles it takes to walk around the globe.

It may sound like a herculean effort, but there are approximately 2000 steps in a mile and they add up fast. If each of our chapter members walked just 1 mile a day for 5 days that would be almost 8 million steps.

How can I join the challenge?
Our chapter has created a virtual walking community and everyone is invited to join.

Visit bit.ly/WalkAroundtheGlobe to create a username and password and get steppin’ – it’s that simple.

How do my steps count?
Keep track of your steps with a pedometer, a mobile App or even a simple spreadsheet. Then, log into the site and create an entry on your stats page. Your steps automatically get counted in the team tally. You can set your own personal goals, monitor our team’s progress and see who is in the lead each time you log in.

Remember to convert your other activities into steps too. Pilates, gardening, painting or even grocery shopping – every step counts. See the Walk Around the Globe conversion chart (below) for some of the most common activities.

Making a step entry

  1. Go to your profile page (save it as a bookmark)
  2. Click on the ‘your stats’ tab
  3. Click on the green ‘add an entry’ button
  4. Select the date and enter your steps (previous days entries are allowed)
  5. Click the green ‘add entry’ button

You can set your personal goals, add comments to entries and monitor your progress on the ‘your stats’ tab.

You can check on the team’s progress and participate in discussions by clicking on the ‘team’ tab and selecting the HBA GP Walk Around the Globe team.
