Experience healthcare and business innovation in St. Louis

Mercy Virtual Care Center
The World’s First Virtual Care Center

In October 2015, Mercy opened its Virtual Care Center, the first and only facility fully dedicated to providing virtual care. This four-story, 125,000 square foot building is the cornerstone of Mercy’s virtual care program and serves as the nerve center for delivering telemedicine and telehealth services. From the ground up, the Virtual Care Center is designed to bring together the best minds for providing individualized patient care, developing optimized workflow processes and advancing technological innovations to transform healthcare. It offers workspace for innovations in patience care, proactive and predictive analytics, and product testing to create an efficient, effective continuum of care for patients—wherever and whenever they need it.

Described as a “one-of-a-kind facility for a one-of-a-kind team,” the Mercy Virtual Care Center was designed specifically to support the delivery of telehealth services. It is the command center for the nation’s largest electronic intensive care unit and other telehealth services, including telestroke, Nurse On Call and physician teleconsults.

On June 26, 2016, the Wall Street Journal featured Mercy’s VCC: “In the woods outside St. Louis, shifts of doctors and nurses work around the clock in Mercy health system’s new Virtual Care Center—a “hospital without beds” that provides remote support for intensive-care units, emergency rooms and other programs in 38 smaller hospitals from North Carolina to Oklahoma. Many of them don’t have a physician on-site 24/7.”
