HBA Paris surveyed women in healthcare this November to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on gender parity. 70 answers were received in a period of 10 days from Oct. 30 to 10 Nov. 2020.
Results showed, remote working significantly increased the workload of 49 percent of participants and 69 percent of the participants agreed that reduced stressful commuting and increased flexibility of work improved their productivity during remote working. However, work-life balance was disturbed and productivity was at the cost of personal space and well-being. Interestingly, only 34 percent of women thought that men were similarly impacted during the COVID-19 crisis.
While remote working negatively impacted the majority of women in healthcare, those who managed to sail through this phase advised that being resilient, organized, communicating clear goals and expectations, setting clear roles and responsibilities are the ways to create work-life balance. Regular contact with team members over informal coffee breaks, willingness to be vulnerable and share your vulnerability, advocating yourself at work, and making allies are great ways to ensure professional growth and productivity.
