Recognizing HBA Southwest’s Marketing & Communications Regional Director, Nikita Gagrat

What is your current role professionally and with the HBA?
I am an area business manager-hematology/oncology at Sanofi Genzyme in Houston, Texas. At Sanofi, I am an ambassador of the WISE (Women Inspiring Sanofi Excellence) network group. As a volunteer with the HBA, I am the Southwest Regional director of marketing. In this role, I support our region and chapters from a marketing, promotions and messaging perspective.

How did you begin your career in healthcare?
I began my career in healthcare back in 2006. Before healthcare, I was in investment banking supporting the traders on the reading floor watching their credit limits as they traded. I met my husband through friends, not in pharma :) and he convinced me to get into healthcare since I was looking for a family/life balance and also wanted to be in an industry where at the end of the day I would feel that I have changed people’s lives by making a difference. I promoted different disease states calling on various specialties. I have worked for start-ups and big pharma and then moved my way into oncology since that was a passion for me because my grandmother had breast cancer, my aunt currently has ovarian cancer and my dad was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. Hence, being in healthcare is not just a job for me, but it’s a huge passion of mine.

What are one or two things that excite you about the future of healthcare and our industry?
By being a resource to my internal and external stakeholders, it allows me to make a difference in the lives of patients and caregivers. I am excited about bringing innovative medicines to patients for unmet needs. Lastly, one patient at a time is a mantra I live by.

What are you passionate about?
Making a difference in people’s lives by being a resource. Teamwork and collaboration are my passion. My passion is to make an impact by helping others strive.

What motivated you to volunteer with the HBA?

  1. Volunteering with the HBA will allow me to contribute to the organization and allow me more than just engaging and make a difference.
  2. I hope to expand my network and learn different skills.
  3. This role will allow me to learn techniques to manage discussions.
  4. I will be able to better brand myself, which will allow me to advance in my career into leadership roles
