How to Make the Most of A Virtual Event

In today's world of virtual meetings, coffee chats and happy hours, a few of our HBA members have picked up some tips and tricks along the way. Here are four suggestions for how to make the most of a virtual event:

Do your research ahead of time.
In advance of an event, whether in-person or virtual, gather information on the topic and speakers and prepare questions on areas that you are interested in learning more about. If your questions are not initially addressed during the discussion, feel free to ask them during the designated Q&A time.

Use the virtual meeting chat function to ask questions and share comments.
We understand that raising your hand during a virtual event is not feasible. If you would like to ask a question or share a comment during an event, feel free to send a note to one of the event facilitators using the virtual meeting chat function.  

Follow up with speakers after the event.
If a speaker shared an experience that resonated with you or presented an idea that you would like to learn more about, seek out their contact information by navigating the HBA membership directory or reaching out to an event facilitator. Consider setting up a virtual 1:1 with this individual to introduce yourself and continue the discussion.

Bring a snack and/or beverage of choice.
There’s something communal about enjoying food and drink together, even if you are doing so remotely. We encourage you to bring your favorite snack and/or beverage to virtual coffee chats, happy hours and other virtual events.
