Rhym Abdennbi has been recognized as one of the five honoured volunteers for Q1 2020 for her commitment to leading the HBA Europe association partnership strategy project and her role as vice president for HBA Paris. We asked Rhym a few questions so we could better understand what drives her and how she has benefited from her involvement with HBA Paris.
When and why did you join HBA Paris?
I joined HBA Paris in 2012 as a program director. These eight years have flown by. Being a volunteer brought me a lot of strong contacts and opportunities.
Why did you choose to be vice president for HBA Paris and can you explain what is your role as VP?
I like to be involved in strategies and plans. With HBA Paris, I’ve always put my energy into building projects that make a difference in terms of gender parity. As the chapter's VP, I originally acted as the back-up for the president and then as the business development lead, in charge of developing the business and cooperation with our key stakeholders.
When and why did you volunteer at the European level to lead the partnership strategy on top of your role as VP, what is the work that you do in this role?
In September 2019, during a VP call, this project was presented and it was said that a coordinator is needed. I immediately raised my hand as this question was already on our mind in the chapter and I had tons of ideas of how to conduct and lead this effort with the other chapter VPs. At the HBA, initiatives are always welcome and the structures (at the chapter, European and global levels) are then helping you to implement and direct the energy.
Do you have fun in these roles or is it mainly a lot of work and time?
I am very fortunate to be working on interesting plans with a fun team. My colleagues come from very different backgrounds and with different mindsets which makes the projects fun to build. We were very productive in the past six months and the team's enthusiasm is galvanizing.
What key learnings would you share with the members of HBA Paris?
It is critical to work as a team and leverage all talents. It is also very important to maintain contacts and benchmark other countries. We have a unique network of people that can provide us with unique insights.
Why would you believe that HBA Paris is the right organization to join to promote gender balance?
The HBA is the only healthcare-focused organisation that has the ambition to move the needle for gender balance in our modern society.
Do you have plans for the coming six months?
Tons. HBA Paris is really busy in building and strengthening the Paris network and delivering on the strong strategic plan that the team delivered.
