Message from HBA Pacific Regional Chair - Christine Armstrong

Greetings HBA Pacific region -

It’s been a strong start out of the gate for the HBA Pacific region with some early accomplishments, growth and enthusiasm from volunteers and supporters. Just within the past weeks, HBA Pacific successfully executed sold-out events in several cities and has once again set the highest standard for bringing critical business insights via the best in our industry to our members. This reinforces for us the appetite our community has for learning about the business deals shaping our industry, women being funded and elevated to the c-suite and diversity and inclusion within the healthcare workplace and in clinical design. We are excited to see how these topics and more play out over the year ahead.

The chapters are busy strategically planning programs, recruiting top-notch advisors and volunteers and honing their vision for their communities. We continue to build strong collaborations with companies, such as Seattle’s Adaptive Biotechnologies Corp., which not only hosted Seattle’s first event of the year – The 2nd Annual Seattle Chapter Insights & Trends from JP Morgan Healthcare Conference – but also gave the HBA a hearty shout-out on social media as they promoted the importance of our upcoming Mentoring Program.

Another great example of partnering in our region to provide diverse and interesting programming is the Advancing Women’s Leadership Conference in Orange County, which will highlight the HBA onsite and from the stage as our HBA OC president, Shawn Andrews, presents on The Power of Perception: Leadership, Emotional Intelligence and Gender. If you’re interested in registering, use code HBADISCOUNT20 for a special HBA members-only discount. As each chapter takes root in their areas, it’s clear to see we have many advocates who are extending our voices on the conversations that matter.

International Women’s Day is fast approaching in March so be sure to celebrate #IWD2020 on 10 March with the HBA and JLABS when HBA president and CEO Laurie Cooke will join industry executives in a panel discussion on the Intrapreneurial Mindset – Lead from Within. Panelists include Dr. Lan Huang, co-founder and CEO, BeyondSpring Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; Liz Markus, director, Re-Ignite program, Johnson & Johnson; Christine Miller, head, global portfolio, Sandoz; and Dr. Joanne Waldstreicher, chief medical officer, Johnson & Johnson. It’s free as a member and corporate partner benefit when you use code HBAWebinar to register. If you can’t attend, a recording will be sent after the webinar.

As the Woman of the Year celebration nears in April in New York, be on the look-out for local simulcast events happening near you. And in the spirit of awards, it’s never too early to think about how we recognize those who serve our community through their professional accomplishments, volunteerism and generosity of time, knowledge and network. Be sure to give thanks to those who have made a difference in your career or guided you on your professional path.

March ahead,
