The HBA programme was established to tap into the diverse workforce at BD, allowing women to build a strong network of peers, mentors and leaders who they can count on for support and guidance. The programme, established in multiple BD locations across the globe, allows members to take on new responsibilities and develop their leadership skills by accessing knowledge and resources from the HBA and their peers. As well as providing the opportunity for professional development, the programme also allows ambassadors to help shape a culture of inclusion and diversity within BD, with ambassadors providing feedback to management, organising events and engaging BD associates in pursuing a more inclusive future for all.
International Women’s Day was an opportunity for HBA ambassadors at multiple BD sites to get involved in organising engaging events for associates, highlighting the progress which has been made both within BD and externally towards gender parity and addressing the challenges women face both within and outside the workplace. Planning for events started well in advance and it was interesting to see how different ambassador hubs approached the theme of #BalanceforBetter.
HBA ambassadors in Germany organised four IWD events at BD sites in Kelberg, Heidelberg, Karlsuhe and Frankfurt. The events attracted over 100 attendees and focused on showcasing why an inclusive and diverse workforce should be encouraged and celebrated. The events proved a great success with a number of attendees asking ambassadors how they can get involved with inclusion and diversity projects within BD.
The HBA ambassador programme at BD has also recently been launched in Italy and the team have already enjoyed working with the HBA representatives on a number of topics including building your own personal brand and how to enhance your career. To celebrate International Women’s Day, Italian associates in Milan and Florence came together for a breakfast meeting where they discussed how all associates can help #BalanceforBetter. After the engaging discussion, each associate wrote a commitment card, detailing how they will help bring about a more balanced future for all associates.
HBA ambassadors in Switzerland run monthly breakfast meetings, giving various functions and business units the chance to meet one another, encouraging associates to work collaboratively across BD. As the monthly breakfasts were already well established, the Swiss ambassadors decided they wanted to challenge themselves for IWD and set their sights on organising an ambitious full week of events. Utilising the balance theme, the team organised five events focused on promoting balance in five areas; culture, health, gender, work-life balance and finally, ending the week with a focus on #BalanceforBetter for IWD 2019. The themes were brought to life through multiple activities including food tasting, yoga sessions, quizzes, meditation, networking, commitment cards and videos.
After the success of International Women’s Day events at BD locations across the globe, HBA ambassadors are looking forward to building on this momentum, encouraging all associates to expand their networks, get involved in future events and take control of their careers. BD looks forward to continuing their partnership with the HBA and creating an inclusive and diverse workforce where all their associates can thrive.
