Event highlights included a welcome video from Congresswoman Joyce Beatty which opened the conference.

“Don’t be afraid to ask and don’t be afraid to fail,” said event speaker Suguna Rachakonda, PhD, MBA, senior director, product development and strategic partnerships at the Cleveland Clinic, while sharing her insights for career advancement. “Create a network of mentors, role models and peers to understand strategies they utilized and learn how to create a path forward that works for you.”

Alice Epitropoulos, MD, FACS, Ophthalmic Surgeons and Consultants of Ohio, The Eye Center of Columbus, clinical assistant professor, The Ohio State University said, “I enjoyed speaking with young women interested in becoming involved in the science and the medical field. I spoke with a young woman who has received two master’s degrees and is contemplating applying to medical school. I encouraged her to reach for her dream and to call me if she needs any guidance.”

When asked the question “What did you hear from our speakers that truly resonated with you?”, an
attendee answered, “I appreciated hearing from male as well as female speakers. This is a subject for all people - not just women.”

HBA Columbus is hosting their next event Best Practices for Gender Equity: A World Café Event generously hosted and sponsored by CoverMyMeds on 15 November 2018, 4:00-6:00pm.
