HBA European development – A letter from the president

Dear HBA Europe community,
HBA Europe is evolving and growing.

Beginning in 2018, the HBA is evolving the volunteer leadership operating model from a discrete chapter model into a regional unit structure. Each regional unit will span a number of countries in Europe (and a number of states in the US), and is designed to increase the value provided to members while enhancing the volunteer experience. The new operating model will also support more rapid growth into new regions across Europe and the rest of the world, in line with the HBA’s vision and mission to further the advancement and impact of women in the business of healthcare.

Strategy, planning and oversight of each region will be conducted by a regional council which consists of a regional chair and executive committee, a treasurer plus the chapter and Center of Excellence (COE) presidents for each region and functional area (e.g. marketing and communications). Each region will have several local chapters.

In Western Europe, each of our current active locations will be transitioning to a chapter model beginning with London in September 2017, with others soon to follow (Basel, Zurich, Geneva area, Frankfurt, Berlin, Paris, Lyon, Milan and Dublin). These transitions are expected to be completed by Q2 2018. We anticipate that the emergence of new chapters will rapidly follow this transition.

Leadership roles will soon be opened and shared with our local communities to call for applications for self-nomination, and nomination of others. In addition to these chapter leadership opportunities, more regional volunteer opportunities will soon be available as well.

For more information about these new volunteer opportunities please contact Diana Lagalante, current HBA Europe volunteer engagement director at large. If you have any questions about our new operating model, please contact Marie-Caroline Strok, HBA Europe operations.

Stay tuned for more exciting news.
We look forward to seeing at our upcoming European Leadership Summit, Oct. 5-6 in London or at some of our upcoming events.
