HBA Chicago is pleased to announce that our March volunteer of the month is Evie Makris. When asked to share her experience as an HBA Chicago volunteer, she told us “I am beyond thrilled to be HBA Chicago’s March volunteer of the month. I am new to the HBA, recently joining HBA Chicago in September 2016, and have been volunteering with the mentoring program ever since. The first event I volunteered for was the end of year celebration event for the mentoring program. I loved seeing the connections and relationships that were made amongst all the women. I knew I made the right decision joining the HBA when I saw the support and encouragement each woman gave to one another. Volunteering with the HBA has definitely helped me expand my professional network, beyond LinkedIn or any other formal network. It has also allowed me to get exposure/experience to marketing which is an area/field of interest I have had for a while. The HBA has given me the opportunity to practice important skills used in the workplace, such as communication, teamwork, project planning, task management and leadership skills. Though it has been a short amount of time that I have been a member of the HBA, I have become more comfortable stretching my wings in my professional life having exercised these skills through this volunteer opportunity. I look forward to the continued growth with the HBA. Thank you again. It is truly an honor.”
If there is an HBA Chicago volunteer that you would like to see recognized as a volunteer of the month, please email Eileen Cook with a brief nomination.
