Message from Tanzania Vinson, HBA Dallas-Forth Worth general manager

Dear HBA Dallas-Fort Worth,
Welcome to HBA Dallas-Fort Worth. As the HBA Dallas-Fort Worth general manager, I’m thrilled to announce that I have officially appointed our volunteer board of directors; and, in just a few months, we have grown to over 60 local members. I look forward to growing together, furthering the advancement and impact of women in the business of healthcare – the HBA’s core purpose.
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many of you at our local events, but in case we have not met I’d like to formally introduce myself.
Although my family and I moved to Texas in 2007, I believe I have always been a Texan at heart. I absolutely love the Cowboys, cowboy boots and barbeque. Originally from a small town in Tennessee, my 23-year pharmacy career journey includes pediatric clinical pharmacy, academia and the pharmaceutical industry. I am currently a medical science liaison, director with Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation.
Over the next several months, I’ll introduce each of the board members, along with highlighting you – our local members; we’d like to get to know you better. Click here and answer the following questions:
  • How did you learn about the HBA and why did you join? I first learned about the HBA in 2013 after attending an event co-hosted by my company, Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation Women in Leadership group, and in 2014, attended my first HBA Annual Conference in Chicago. My mentor suggested that I push myself to meet at least 10 new people during the conference. To my surprise and excitement, before the conference even began, I met 10 women on the shuttle to the opening ceremony. The executive dine-arounds provided an excellent forum for me to learn from executive leaders and meet several women with different healthcare business experiences. During the conference, I experienced the radical hospitality that the HBA brings to all of their events. The energy from the platform speakers, attendees and workshops solidified my decision to volunteer with the HBA. In 2015, I was grateful for the opportunity to help lead the launch and growth one of the HBA’s newest affiliates.
  • What is one thing that people are surprised to learn about you? I enjoy reading mystery novels. I grew up reading Alfred Hitchcock, the master of suspense. Now Harlen Corben and Mary Higgins Clark are two of my favorite mystery writers.
  • Where is your favorite vacation spot and why? My favorite vacation destination is anywhere with lots of sun and sand. If I have to pick, Hawaii is on the top of my list.
Don’t forget to include your picture as an attachment to the email.
Currently, the new board members are learning their roles and planning of our local 2016-2017 event schedule is underway – be on the lookout for networking opportunities, educational events and service opportunities.
I am excited to work with a wonderful board of leaders and excellent volunteers who support HBA Dallas-Fort Worth, and look forward to our continued success.
