Dear HBA Metro,
Happy spring. Although it’s starting to feel like it is December again. The poor flowers and trees are so confused. Well, soon enough it will be warm and then we will be complaining it is too hot.
I have been so excited to be meeting members and seeing old friends at our recent events. We had a great time at our happy hour event in March at Battello in Jersey City. It was a great turnout with lots of networking. Thank you to Mizanne Francis for hosting this event. We will definitely be going back as the view of the Manhattan skyline is amazing. I also had the opportunity to kickoff our 2016 mentoring program with a wonderful group of mentors and mentees. Sandra Clarke, CFO at Daiichi Sankyo, gave an inspirational talk about her career and the importance of mentoring. Our attendees were very appreciative of her candor and warmth. And, thank you Daichi Sankyo for sponsoring our kickoff dinner.
Our April 18 at Pfizer in Madison proved to be a great evening as we learned How to Be the CEO of Me: Owning Your Career. Career strategist and author, Rod Colon, led an interactive and informative workshop session which helped you to develop your brand, give your elevator pitch, leverage your network and broadcast your brand. And, we held a webinar on April 19, How to Use Effective Leadership to Drive Team Performance which was led by Norm Celotto, principal consultant, and Sinead Bortner, senior talent services manager, both from Korn Ferry Hay Group.
How about joining our Fit to Lead team, "down the shore" for New Jersey Races at the Jersey Shore the weekend of April 30 and May 1. You can choose to do a full marathon, half-marathon, half-marathon relay or 5K. It is a great opportunity to be with other HBA members who are looking to stretch themselves through fitness as well in a team setting, supporting eachother.
And now something personal, I encourage you over the next month to do something that I am committing to do:
- Do something that scares you
- Write a note to someone telling them what you appreciate about them
- Meet someone new and truly engage
- And tell me how it is going – feel free to email me or grab me at an upcoming event.
Remember life is about growing and having fun.
