Letter from Gerarda Collins, 2016 HBA Metro president

Dear HBA Metro,

We have had an incredible start to 2016. Our first two webinars had amazing attendance and were very well-received. Last week, we had over 75 people at our J&J event Inspiring Career Journeys Panel that was moderated by Tammy Warner from Celgene and had two amazing panelists. Marene Allison, chief information security officer, worldwide vice president of information security and risk management, Johnson & Johnson, spoke about how her career moved from West Point graduate to the FBI and later to security. While Ghylian Bell, the founder and director of Urban Yoga Foundation, went from fashion model to founding an organization to help children through yoga. Both of these women had incredible stories to share.

Our HBA Metro board also had an opportunity to come together in early February with other chapters in Atlanta to learn how we can be more effective as leaders. Everyone came back charged and ready to go. HBA Metro will also be having happy hour events for networking in different geographies. We had our first one at the end of January and events are being planned for Monmouth County, Hoboken and the Upper West side. Plan on meeting with us at one of these events. And, do think about volunteering. It is truly what takes you to the next level of your membership as you can practice and develop skills that may not be part of your current job.

See you at the next event,
