My previous background in neuroscience working as a bench scientist led me to my current position in staffing. I joined the HBA early this year to expand my professional network in the Bay Area outside of academia while transitioning my career away from the bench. I am also relatively new to California and when I discovered the HBA it seemed like a natural fit. After joining the HBA, I became a volunteer for the membership and market research committees to gain experience and confidence in communicating with professionals outside academia, a beneficial skill for my long term career goal as a clinical research coordinator. I enjoy attending HBA events because, in addition to seeing familiar faces from my HBA volunteer committees, I also meet new professionals and learn current healthcare industry trends. At the HBA San Francisco chapter recent ‘Lean In’ event, I even won a raffle, a book Managing Transitions: Making the Most of Change by William Bridges.
Since joining the HBA, I have found the mentor program to be the most enriching member benefit. I believe becoming a part of the HBA’s professional network community and its educational and professional resources have all positively impacted my career growth. I look forward to upcoming HBA events especially in the South Bay.
