Happy New Year

Mimi Farmer, MDWelcome back and welcome to the 2013 year of the HBA Florida chapter. I hope you and yours had a great holiday season. It was wonderful to see so many of you at the holiday event at Moffitt, one of our favorite venues and a terrific way to celebrate the season.

We reached a new milestone of 200 members in 2013 and are going strong. It was a growth year for the HBA Florida chapter and one in which we maintained our focus on professional development, intensified our connection to the Florida healthcare community and the expansion of our chapter.

We will continue to ride the purple wave to programs to create a very exciting 2013. Beginning this month, we kickoff our local workshops in Tampa and South Florida providing a provocative discussion on change and how to evolve professionally to make 2013 our best year. There will be great food, friendship and opportunity to start the New Year with the right mindset.

Our guiding 2013 chapter theme is HBA Florida equals your connection to healthcare knowledge and network. The program schedule will support our theme and goal to expand the HBA Florida community. We will accomplish this through opportunities to develop healthcare and technical knowledge, and the diversification of our membership by industry vertical and geographical footprint expanding in Jacksonville and South Florida. A full program schedule for 2013 will be in the next eblast and posted on our website and we urge you to attend as many of these events as you can.

Here is a quick look ahead of some upcoming programs. In February, we have a fantastic evening planned at the Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS). CAMLS is a 90,000 square foot, state-of-the-art, three-story facility with every possible form of health professional education and training. We will discuss latest trends and advances in healthcare based on the foundation of simulation technology, aviation science, team training and evidence-based best practices into create innovative programs with measureable outcomes. Later in the year, we host a round table discussion to examine the New York Times bestseller, The Social Animal, based on the hidden sources of love, character and achievement. We suggest that all HBA Florida chapter members get a head start and begin reading the book to provide the most value out of the discussion.

On a final note, I am excited to serve the HBA Florida chapter as president this year. In keeping with HBA's mission to further the advancement and recognition of women leaders in healthcare, our Florida board is committed to our 2013 goals. Together, we will become more connected, more knowledgeable and we will be better recognized for it. I know I speak for all of us that we look forward to a wonderful and prosperous new year.

Warmly,

Mimi Farmer
HBA Florida chapter president
