Most people already know how Dress for Success helps disadvantaged women to get back into the workforce by providing them with appropriate business attire. What many people don’t know is that Dress for Success does much more than provide business apparel—they provide career skills building, employment retention programs and networking opportunities with the goal of supporting a client’s journey to economic independence by providing the tools necessary to obtain and succeed at a job over the long term. Dress for Success® Morris County serves eight New Jersey counties: Morris, Essex, Passaic, Middlesex, Somerset, Union, Sussex, Warren.
The HBA Metro’s Dress for Success Program took place throughout October. The first phase of the program included a one-week clothing drive led by Rising Stars within their respective companies. Six New Jersey companies have agreed to participate by holding clothing drives:
- Ogilvy CommonHealth
- The Hobart Group
- Novo Nordisk
- DSM Pharma
Cindy Gladis of Open Doerr Communications generously donated her time to create a beautiful poster to help these companies promote their clothing drives.
The second phase of the program was a workshop at Dress for Success® Morris County led by HBA Rising Stars. Twenty of the Dress for Success clients attended this highly interactive evening workshop that focused on corporate culture issues. Many of us take for granted the skills we’ve learned in our careers to help us manage up, set goals and objectives, prioritize and use time management skills to manage our workload, but for many the clients of Dress for Success these are vital job retention skills that they have never had the opportunity to learn. We would like to shout out a huge thanks to those who have been working tirelessly to help shape and execute these workshops including Marjorie Reedy, Carolyn Greenberg, Kate Shain and Kate Fagles of Merck, Kimberly Levy from Epocrates and Christine Rydzik. The team at Health and Wellness Partners has graciously donated the funds to provide calendar/planner journals and pens to the women of Dress for Success® Morris County. To these individuals and companies: your contributions and involvement are so valued.
We would also like to send out a huge thank you to Applebee’s Restaurant in East Hanover. Debby Schultz of Applebee’s graciously donated all of the food for the October 23rd event. This is such a generous donation.
In today’s challenging economic environment, when so many Americans are struggling financially, it’s more important than ever to help motivated women re-enter the workforce and find sustainable and meaningful employment. This is a great opportunity for the Rising Stars to help Dress for Success® Morris County act as a catalyst for change and at the same time to increase the visibility of the Rising Stars across the HBA and the local community.
