Registration Ends March 23.

Sales executives, marketing directors, VPs of regulatory and HR managers—all have been either mentors or mentees.

Mentoring doesn’t focus on titles, but rather on the experience, leadership and wisdom that participants bring to the table. Together, we can harness the power of our collective talents and expertise.

“…After mentoring for years, being a mentee enabled me to create a support network that helped me manage a difficult acquisition.” Mentee

“…In my career, I learned no one is going to take care of you, quite like you can. I find it rewarding to encourage women to look out for their own careers.” Mentor

What is the HBA Chicago chapter mentoring program?

The 2012 Mentoring Program will run for six months from April to October. Based on mutual goals and interests, two mentors and four mentees will be matched to form an intimate mentoring circle where information, ideas, motivation and advice are shared.

Why should I consider joining?

  • The HBA membership has a wealth of experience and knowledge just waiting for members to tap into.
  • The mentoring program is an easy way to connect with a powerful network.
  • For mentees, it’s an ideal outside-of-the-workplace-forum to address challenging work and career/life issues.
  • For mentors, it’s a wonderful opportunity to give back and make a positive impact in the changing healthcare industry.

How will my mentoring circle work?

The HBA Chicago mentoring committee will review applications and match up mentee needs with mentor expertise. There will be a mandatory kickoff event in April introducing mentors and mentees.

After that, each mentoring circle will commit to meeting at least once a month—if not more. For mentees and mentors, success will be determined by how much time participants invest in either seeking or providing feedback and resources. How, when and where meetings take place will be up to each group. The program will wrap-up with a celebratory event in October.

Should I be a mentor or mentee?

Whether to be a mentor or mentee is up to you.

Mentees are those looking for personal or professional areas of growth and who would value the insight, experiences and educational resources of other professionals in the healthcare arena.

Mentors have demonstrated leadership skills, are confident in the knowledge of their field and are good listeners. They have the time, patience and commitment to help others develop by sharing their experiences, perspectives and encouragement.

New this year, a mentor-training workshop will be offered.

Mentors and mentees share the responsibilities of facilitating, organizing and motivating their circle. This year, each circle will have a mentoring committee liaison to help the group manage any challenges or hurdles.

How much does it cost?

Mentees and mentors must be registered HBA members. The cost for the mentee is $200.  The cost for the mentor is the time and commitment needed to help facilitate a successful mentoring circle.
