HBA chapter: HBA Paris
Current role with the HBA: director of operations, HBA Paris

I volunteer for the United Force for Change because honestly, it’s time for change. It’s time to walk the talk on gender parity.

My favorite HBA event I ever attended was my first one. It was the 2017 HBA European Leadership Summit in London. The theme that year was “Be the Future: Inclusion, Impact, Innovation”. My key takeaway: “There are more CEOs named John than women” and that needs to change.

The most valuable lessons I have learned from fellow volunteers include some pearls of wisdom I received from my mentors:

  1. 'No' is a complete sentence.
  2. Don't be afraid of disrupting yourself. There is great power in being a beginner.
  3. You can have it all, just not all at once. And it might just be later than you were planning. So, pace yourself for a marathon and enjoy the journey.

My favorite part of volunteering for the HBA is working with a diverse group of bright, willing and engaged people with a great sense of humour, working together to move the needle on gender parity in the healthcare industry. Volunteering with the HBA has given me abundant opportunities to do things outside my comfort zone and improve my leadership skills.

I first got involved with the HBA when I joined the 2017 HBA Europe mentoring program to develop my leadership skills and explore careers in the healthcare industry. The HBA Entrepreneurship affinity group had been launched that year and was looking for volunteers. My mentor was leading this group and she encouraged me to join her team. That’s where I started my journey as an HBA volunteer.

I applied for my current role with the HBA because I was serving as director of membership and volunteer engagement of HBA Paris since early 2018. I wanted to continue my journey with the team to take HBA Paris to the next level. I am currently the director of operations of HBA Paris.

What would be your advice to someone thinking about joining or getting more involved with the HBA? If you are looking to build long-lasting professional relationships, keen to learn from experts in the healthcare industry and care about gender parity, join the HBA.
