We all want to enhance our influence, but what if we’re sabotaging ourselves without even knowing it? Most of us believe if we know our topic and, if we feel good, we must be good. We often confuse how influential we feel with how influential we actually are. The key to unlocking a more accurate picture? Understanding that influence is a result, not an intent.
How you communicate — verbally and nonverbally — determines whether others see you as credible, knowledgeable and trustworthy. Without doing this effectively, you inhibit your potential to reach your goals, whether that means increasing profits, building a reputation or moving others to action.
This practical and interactive half-day session explores topics that play a role in the ability to influence, including reputational management, message creation and delivery, projecting confidence and credibility, building trust with your audience, communication brevity and frequency, managing expectations and minimizing miscommunication and moving others to action. Learn how to deliver a message your audience wants to receive, not just what you want them to hear.
Providing an opportunity for active engagement, volunteer and paired video recorded exercises will be incorporated throughout the seminar so you can practice and apply the skills you’re learning. Using real-world examples, these exercises focus on behavioral skills, message development, strategy, face-to face and virtual conversations and communicating with different audiences. Immediately following these exercises, pairs will be asked to provide each other with feedback and view their video playbacks. By practicing giving and receiving feedback, you’ll build confidence in this key building block to accelerating your individual development.
So that you continue to build on what you’ve learned, you’ll complete an action plan to hold yourself accountable for your continued development and receive a detailed participant manual reviewing the skills and techniques covered in this session as a post-seminar download.
One month before the conference, participants will complete a listener analysis, which identifies individual strengths and areas for improvement, and be asked to identify topics to discuss during the exercises.
