Toronto, a healthcare sector hot spot in Canada, has teamed up with the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) to launch a new HBA Toronto affiliate in 2019.
What is the HBA?
The HBA is a global non-profit organization comprised of individuals and organizations from across the healthcare industry committed to:
- achieving gender parity in leadership positions
- facilitating career and business connections
- providing effective practices that enable organizations to realize the full potential of their female talent
The HBA accomplishes its mission through strong business networks, education, research, advocacy, and recognition for individuals and companies.
Why join HBA Toronto?
There are more pharmaceutical companies in Ontario than in any other Canadian province – most of which are co-located in Mississauga, Downtown Toronto and Markham. Ontario is home to some 1,900 life sciences firms that employ some 60,000 people and generate over $38 billion in revenues annually. The pharmaceutical sector alone is responsible for $25 billion of those revenues and employs about 28,000 people. Beyond this, Ontario is home to four of Canada's top 10 research hospitals and Ontario's 24 research hospitals employ 18,000 researchers and research staff. Furthermore, more than 3,200 clinical trials are underway in Ontario at any given time1.
Above all else, the open environment supporting collaboration between business, academia, clinical care and research in Ontario is the envy of innovators and entrepreneurs elsewhere. Here, life sciences firms can take advantage of more than a dozen research partnership programs and grants and other industry programs1.
