In 2020, the HBA began taking steps to vocalize and demonstrate a stronger commitment to action for racial equity in the healthcare industry to ensure we are advocating for all women. On MLK day, HBA’s president and CEO Laurie Cooke shared an overview of our work to date and plans for this year.
In addition to amplifying our voices and advocating to drive sustainable change with our United Force for Change muscle, we are taking the opportunity during Black History Month to spread messages of optimism and industry examples of promising best practices and celebration of history makers.
It is our hope that by sharing the broad and collective experiences of our HBA network we can drive dialogue, engagement and actions that will ultimately lead us to a community of authentic equity, inclusiveness and belonging.
Here is what we have going on:
We have partnered with several members of our community for social media takeovers:
- 1 February: Ayanna Braxton, senior manager, process training and compliance - clinical development services, Takeda Pharmaceuticals
- 8 February: Serene Hollingsworth, director, corporate accounts, HBA
- 15 February: Dr. Adriane Atkins, medical science liaison
- 22 February: Nycole Joiner, VP, finance and head, central education and events, HBA
We have also compiled a list highlighting how some of our corporate partners and Gender Parity Collaborative members are honoring Black History Month.
Additionally, some of our regions and affinity groups are hosting events and programs worldwide. Registration information will be available shortly.
