Nov 10, 2009 - New Biotech Track Offered at Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association Leadership Conference
HBA Partners with BayBio for Interactive Summit
SAN FRANCISCO – The Healthcare Businesswomen's Association (HBA) is offering a new biotech track as part of its annual HBA Leadership Conference on November 18 – 20, 2009 at the historic Westin St. Francis in San Francisco, Calif. Additionally, in partnership with BayBio, an independent, nonprofit trade association serving the life sciences industry in Northern California, the conference will feature a three-hour interactive symposium on Friday, November 20, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The biotech track, called E-Level Science: Innovation at the Executive Level in the Science Vertical, will be hosted by Dr. Moira Gunn, host of Tech Nation and BioTech Nation, which airs on the National Public Radio channels on XM-SIRIUS Satellite Radio. The session features an expert panel of executive women scientists whose leadership and innovation are influencing C-level decision making and transforming healthcare. Experts will share their personal leadership stories and how scientific innovation at the executive level can help drive a successful path forward. Speakers and panelists include Susan M. Molineaux, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer and Founder, Proteolix, Gisela M. Schwab, MD, EVP and Chief Medical Officer, Exelixis, and Kornelija Zgonc, VP global R&D instrumentation and engineering, Life Technologies.
“I’m honored to be hosting such an esteemed panel of women in science, especially now when leadership in this field is so critical,” said Dr. Gunn. “I encourage all of those attending the conference to join us for this critical session.”
The interactive symposium, presented in conjunction with BayBio, includes an esteemed panel of biotechnology experts addressing topics that cover biotech healthcare, food, and fuel, including updated results and content stemming from the first-ever BioEconomy Summit on June 25, 2009. It will also be moderated by Dr. Gunn.
“As companies contend with a shifting global landscape, restructured capital markets, and threats from biosimiliars, our experts will discuss how companies can harness scientific breakthroughs to reach social and economic goals; how to prepare their workforces for the scientific challenges ahead; what regulators/governments can do to stimulate innovation; and what policies should be supported and pursued to expand access and tap the full range of benefits available from the next wave of innovations,” said Ceci Zak, Vice President, General Therapeutics Marketing, sanofi-aventis and President, HBA Board of Directors.
“We are very excited to join forces with HBA for this ground-breaking symposium,” said Gail Maderis, acting CEO of BayBio and panelist for the November 20 BioEconomy symposium. “In this unique session, we will put solutions at the fingertips of healthcare professionals to help them adapt to the changing times.”
The panel discussion will be followed by an interactive Q&A session and a networking reception.
