Leadership in Practice:

A Learning and Coaching Continuum

HBA Inaugural Leadership in Practice Program
“Equanimity Under Duress: A Conversation about Leadership” featuring Dr. Freda Lewis-Hall
A three-month online leadership development continuum

At the HBA Leadership Conference, Freda Lewis Hall, MD presented her story Equanimity Under Duress named after the guiding words of her mentor, Dr. LaSalle D. Leffall, Jr.

Dr. Lewis-Hall’s compelling and inspirational presentation Equanimity Under Duress will be the foundation for the first Leadership in Practice program that will combine inspirational life lessons with practical leadership skill development.

The Leadership in Practice program recognizes that:

  • Access to role models like Freda-Lewis Hall, MD can reach and benefit more people in an online interactive setting
  • Individuals learn in a variety of ways, so alternative program formats complement face to face programming
  • Developing leadership skills is a process that takes time and reinforcement, making a three month engagement supportive of adult learning principles.

There are two ways to participate in this pilot program:

Self-guided: This three month program consists of an online kickoff “virtual event” with a live discussion led by Freda Lewis-Hall, MD; an ongoing online discussion; four self-guided content modules and a closing online event.

Professional small group coaching option: This three month program consists of an online kickoff virtual event led by Freda Lewis-Hall MD; an ongoing online discussion; four virtual small group content sessions led by a professional leadership coach and a closing online event.

By participating in this program you will

  1. Learn about the experiences and life lessons of a woman who has achieved great success in the healthcare industry.
  2. Improve your leadership skills to be productive and functional when confronted with personal and professional challenges.
  3. Through conversations with others, become more aware of your individual challenges and gain specific skills to address them and improve your capabilities.

HBA Leadership Coaching

The Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association is widely regarded as the premier catalyst for the leadership development of women in healthcare worldwide. To fulfill our mission to further the advancement and impact of women in healthcare globally, we have expanded our offering of leadership coaching. In 2011 there are two opportunities to participate in professional leadership coaching with the HBA: the Leadership in Practice coaching option and individual coaching sessions at the HBA 2011 Leadership Conference

The leadership coaches for both programs have had to meet or exceed defined criteria and successfully complete an application process. To learn more about leadership coaching within the HBA, please review:
