HBA Honorable Mentors*

The HBA created the Honorable Mentor Award in 2001 to annually honor one man who has demonstrated long-term support of the advancement of women in the healthcare industry. Specifically the honoree must have a personal dedication to developing, mentoring and promoting women in the industry, and be actively supportive of the HBA.

Fairfield, NJ, February 27, 2008 --- The Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) today named Genentech’s Leonard Kanavy, Vice President, Commercial Operations, as the 2008 Honorable Mentor. Kanavy is the HBA’s eighth Honorable Mentor; he will be formally recognized at the 19th annual HBA “Woman of the Year” Luncheon on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the New York Hilton.

“Genentech is committed to the evolution of leadership and mentoring skills for women throughout the Company and who work in diverse areas – from science and product development, to legal and executive management,” said Kanavy. “We understand the importance of identifying and cultivating talent and we’re committed to evolving programs that encourage women to get involved and inspire others.”

The HBA created the Honorable Mentor Award in 2001 to recognize one individual each year who demonstrates long-term support of the advancement of women in the healthcare industry; has a personal dedication to developing, mentoring and promoting women in the industry; and who has been supportive of the HBA.

“Len was chosen as this year’s HBA Honorable Mentor because of his tireless dedication as a mentor of women in our industry and his commitment to their career development,” said HBA President Elizabeth M. Mutisya, MD.

Kanavy joined Genentech as Vice President, Commercial Operations in 2006 and his responsibilities include overseeing the Market Planning, Forecasting, Sales Operations, Data Acquisition, Commercial Training, Commercial Business Processes, Thought Leader Management and Market Communications groups.

“Len is deeply respected for his commitment to developing people and particularly for his mentoring of the women on his team. He clearly values the richness of a diverse workforce and helps to empower women to aspire and succeed,” said Ian Clark, executive vice president for Genentech’s Commercial group. “He is an exceptional leader and role model.”
