HBA Southern California Chapter Committee Volunteer Role Openings

Several key committee positions are available for HBA Volunteers:

Mentoring Committee

  • HBA Mentoring Program Connector:
    Liaise between the mentoring groups and the Mentoring Committee to ensure smooth, successful operation of the program. Connectors will collect information at least twice in the mentoring year and help address issues and concerns for groups that hit bumps in the road. No experience on the mentoring committee is required. Required skills include: good communication, follow up, networking type skills and persistence.

Membership Committee

  • Membership Committee Volunteers:
    Help manage monthly committee teleconferences; develop strategies for new member acquisitions and retention, members to make phone calls – call members when membership is about to expire and present new member orientations. We need committee members that enjoy talking to and meeting new people, making presentations, and encouraging participation in the HBA. Required skills include: good organizational skills and outgoing personality to ‘meet and greet’ participants. 2-3 openings are currently available.
  • Volunteer Connectors and New Member Buddy – to contact new members and welcome them to the HBA and connect them to all the resources.

General Programming

  • Materials Coordinator:
    Work closely with marketing group to ensure the development of meeting materials including brochures and handouts and produce with selected vendor. Prepare nametags. Required skills include: Word processing, document formatting skills and vendor management.
  • Registration Desk Volunteers:
    Manage the registration desk at monthly HBA events. Welcome guests, distribute materials, and provide name tags. Required skills include: light administrative and good people skills.
  • Logistics Volunteers:
    Locate site and ensure all necessary preparations are made for a successful event, including food, beverages, handouts, setup of registration table, cleanup, etc. Required skills include: project planning and financial acumen.

Volunteer Committee

  • Volunteer Committee Members:
    Assist with defining and enhancing the volunteer experience, define and coordinate the annual volunteer recognition program. Required skills include: good strategic planning and organizational development skills, good communication skills and ability to define and direct events and programs.
  • Committee Liaisons:
    Act as a liaison between the volunteer committee and committee board chairs to ensure each committee’s needs are met and supported. Connectors for Finance, Marketing, Membership, Research, Affinity Groups - help form a relationship with the committee to understand their needs and help attain volunteers. Required skills include: willingness to get involved in general interested in succession roles, good interpersonal skills, organization and prioritization skills.
  • Volunteer Assignment Coordinator:
    Assist with recruiting, engaging and retaining volunteers, provide volunteers with required information and forms, follow up with placed volunteers to ensure engagement and project assignment within a committee, be responsive in a timely manner. Required skills include: good communication and follow up skills with volunteers and board members. 3-4 positions are currently available.
  • Database Management Coordinator:
    Maintain the volunteer database to track contributions and time, work closely with membership to ensure member status for all volunteers, and communicate regularly with the volunteers committee the names of the interested volunteers for placement. Required skills include: timely responsiveness, attention to detail, and strong Excel skills.
  • General and On-Call Volunteers:
    Take on various responsibilities including directing attendees to event activities on-site, helping with on-site fulfillment, assistance with miscellaneous tasks, be open and available for last minute needs and “call for help” on various board projects and initiatives. Required skills include: openness and flexibility, sense of adventure, good sense of humor and interest in lending a helping han, 4-6 positions are currently available (will get engaged as needed).

Marketing Committee

  • IT Web Master:
    Provide support to directors to ensure that events are executed as perfectly as possible, attend teleconferences and take minutes on an as needed basis, manage the “checklist” to ensure all program tasks are being done on time and within budget. Required skills include: willingness to get involved in general overview of program for possible succession, good interpersonal skills, organization and prioritization skills.
  • Electronic Communicator:
    Interface with marketing and directors to produce and ensure posting of generic program overview and specific program invitations, reminders, and Follow-up emails. Required skills include: willingness to learn steps involved in email both on HBA corporate and chapter level, coordination and planning skills and attention to detail.
  • Market Research Coordinator:
    Be the liaison with chapter Market Research to assist in developing, distributing, collecting and summarizing feedback from event participants. Required skills include: some basic survey and analytical skills.
  • Marketing Liaison:
    Work with Chapter Marketing to ensure all program materials are created, published and distributed in a timely manner. Required skills include: written communication and creative /graphics and desktop publishing / Microsoft Office and time management skills.
  • Sponsorship Liaison:
    Work with Corporate Relations to coordinate sponsorship for events. Required skills include: presentation (when asked to be part of HBA company presentations), negotiation, and follow up skills.
  • Print Collateral Volunteer:
    Work with the Print Collateral Sub-Committee Chair to design HBA S CA Chapter brochures, flyers and other handouts for local programming. Required skills include interest in design, attention to detail, good communication skills and organizational skills.
  • PowerPoint Experts - with interest in creating event flyers – work with eblast coordinator. Leave behinds at events e.g. Connections Brochure.
  • Event Reporters - can partner to write event coverage – 2-3 hours per event plus attendance; plus previews written for evening events in 2010.
