2015 Stuart Sowder
Head of Compliance, Developed Asia at Pfizer recognized as 2015 Honorable Mentor
The Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) named Stuart Sowder of Pfizer as its 2015 Honorable Mentor.
The HBA created the Honorable Mentor award in 2001 to annually recognize an individual who demonstrates long-term advocacy for current and future women leaders. Recipients exhibit personal dedication to developing, mentoring and promoting women in the industry, and are supportive of the HBA’s core purpose to further the advancement and impact of women in the business of healthcare.
During the HBA 26th annual Women of the Year event, Stuart stated, “I am incredibly honored to be recognized by the HBA as this year’s Honorable Mentor. The HBA’s commitment to developing leaders at all levels is consistent with my personal philosophy of fostering a growth environment in the workplace. The HBA has had a remarkable impact on so many women that I am fortunate to work with in the industry.”
Stuart’s career at Pfizer spans nearly 20 years, during which he has established himself as a leader who considers mentorship an integral part of his responsibilities. He is known for empowering colleagues at all levels to succeed and coaching them in ways that improve their chances of success. He has played a hands-on role in advancing the careers of many talented women at Pfizer, preparing them for leadership positions within Pfizer and beyond.
“As a long-time advocate for diversity and inclusion, Stuart continuously encourages us all to break down barriers and change the dynamics of leadership,” said Freda Lewis- Hall, MD, chief medical officer of Pfizer and 2011 HBA Woman of the Year award winner. “He has instilled a culture of growth and opportunity that exemplifies this award and sets a standard for others to follow.”
Stuart joined Pfizer in 1997 after a career in hospital pharmacy at the Veteran’s Administration in Manhattan. At Pfizer, he has held various leadership positions within the field force, outcomes research, medical information, vice president of medical communications and is now head of compliance. Stuart received a BS in pharmacy from Rutgers University and a PharmD from Shenandoah University. He earned a JD at New York Law School and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
